Another Lord’s Day! Of course, every day belongs to the Lord but it is most often on Sundays (and sometimes Saturdays and Saturday nights) that Christians around the world go to church to celebrate our Saviour. In long ago Etta Bend, there was no church but there was the schoolhouse. People went to the school house to worship. Hopefully, we also worship Jesus throughout the week. The words we speak and how we say them, our actions and reactions, even making the beds to the best of our ability, or baking a pie can be a way of praising the God who made us.
Into my meandering mind this morning come thoughts of the people and ideals the world often praises instead of praising God. Many times vulgarity, wealth, beautiful clothes, and arrogance are pictured as the ideal, a goal to be attained when in truth such things are anything but praiseworthy, and sometimes downright embarrassing. To my way of thinking, these people have no class. And they haven’t a clue as to what real class is.
Class doesn’t depend on wealth or popularity. Class doesn’t put on a show; it doesn’t have to. There is a natural aristocracy of the common people. Having class has nothing to do with whether or not one has money. Class has an inherent sense of self-worth and because of that, tries to make everyone feel comfortable. Class has a sense of humor and is always willing to laugh at himself but never at others.
Right along with class come some beautiful words: discretion, honor, honesty, courtesy, perseverance, faith, trustworthiness. I would say these are pretty classy attributes.
I am amazed at the natural grace and nobility of wild creatures. I know that God made all animals and birds but for some reason, I think of untamed, wild creatures as God’s creatures. Yesterday, I snapped a picture of a regal-looking robin, perched high on his throne in the mulberry tree. He seemed to be looking down on more lowly beings, namely me.I think we humans should take a lesson from those wild animals and birds. They praise God every day , just doing the things the Lord fashioned them to do.
amen, stated well
