Etta Bend Daily Devotional
January 12–“What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee” (Psalm 56:3).
Nighttime at Etta Bend in the early 1900s was dark indeed. If the moon didn’t happen to be shining, the only brightness was the light of coal oil lamps glowing in the farmhouse windows. Sometimes trouble is like that–it seems to be pressing in from all sides and we can’t see a spark of hope. When the Latty children went to bed, they carried a kerosene lamp with them, to drive away those scary shadows in the corners. Safely snuggled in their featherbeds, they heard the fireplace in the living room crackle and pop and knew that Ma and Pappy Latty were still awake. They went to sleep, safe in the knowledge that the darkness held no terror that their parents could not banish.
Thought: We too can trust our Heavenly Father. When the world seems dark, we can rest in the knowledge that He is with us and His angels are standing guard.
