One of the writing projects I’m working on is a daily devotional book with the Etta Bend of the early twentieth century as the background. The format is to have a Bible verse at the top, short sketch in the middle, and a take away Thought at the bottom. Here is a sample:
January 8–“I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower” (Habakkuk 2:1).
Along about the middle of winter, the cold weather blues sometimes threaten to break into my thoughts and heart. At those times, I comfort myself by thinking of other winters, those years of long ago, when my mother was a child. Through her words, it is as if I actually remember the Levi Latty family sitting in front of their fireplace at night, after the work of the day had ended. How still, warm, and safe it must have been. Ma and Pappy Latty were there, towers of strength and wisdom, to watch over their family. All was well.
Thought: Peace and contentment warms hearts better than a comfortable blaze in a wintertime fireplace.
I can’t wait to see these in book form.
