In the Frigid Northwest

The thermometer registers one degree! One!! I have a feeling that, just before sunrise, it may dip below zero. Probably two or three inches of snow lie on the ground. This is Cold Weather. The Snowy Owl has been spotted in Florida and people in Canada are experiencing frost quakes. What a winter! And, by the way, my crocheted snowman smiles knowingly from his favored place on the fireplace.

A few brave drivers are venturing out today. The tires make a loud crunching sound as they go down the street. Just looking out my window at the snowy, frozen, still world is enough to send me scurrying back to the kitchen for a second cup of coffee!

This is a picture of my container garden. Remember how beautiful it was last summer? Well, with snow on the red pots, it is still pretty–just in a different way.

Today marks the Epiphany, the day many Christians celebrate as the time the Wise Men reached the Lord Jesus. They had seen His star and had followed it to find the Christ. I wonder how many miles they traveled with their gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh? I wonder how many hardships they faced along the way? Pictures show them traveling by way of camels. That couldn’t have been an easy ride but they were determined to find the King who had been born. They are called Wise Men and indeed, those who seek Jesus are wise. I wonder what change finding Him made in the lives of those men from the East? What change does He make in our lives today? Like those who came to Bethlehem, found Jesus and worshiped Him, we too should be filled with great joy. Christ the Lord is born!
