My deck is wet so evidently sometime during the night, a spate of rain fell. The temperature is well above freezing but the weatherman says the day will get colder. I wonder if there’s a chance for a snow flurry? Yesterday morning when I glanced out, the way the sky looked, the clouds, the soft grays reminded me of snow. That is one plus about growing older: I’ve seen lots of skies and, being interested in the weather, I’ve remembered how cloud formations sometimes spell “snow”. Now, this is not a scientific discovery nor is it always accurate. My forecasts are based only on “feelings” and you know how trustworthy feelings are!! But, if a person nods wisely and proclaims, “I think we’re going to have snow”, people will listen (sometimes). For some reason, talking about weather lore reminds me of another of my dad’s sayings (he had a lot of them.) Sometimes, teasing me, he’d say, “That’s worse than I was that dry year.” What dry year was that? What happened that was worse? That’s something Dad never told me.
Words are fascinating. I’ve subscribed to a website that sends me a Word of the Day each morning. After reading this morning’s word, I’m wondering if I have a tendency toward being a troglodyte. Winter sometimes does that to me. I believe it may have started when the ice and snow was on the ground. Such weather as that tends to bring out the troglodytish side of my personality. That probably isn’t good, although I would think that troglodytes could get in a lot of writing.
When switching channels on the television one day, I discovered the series called, “Monk.” Have you watched it? The series ended in 2009 but for some reason, I missed it the first time around and what I’ve been watching are re-runs. Last night was the season finale. It isn’t often that a TV show has me on the edge of my chair, but last night, I was on the edge of my chair as I watched the wrap up of Monk. Sometimes characters play their parts so well, they really seem to be the people they are portraying. Whoever selected the actors in that series did a great job. However, it was not a good bedtime story nor was it conducive to having peaceful dreams.
Speaking of sauntering into Sunday, what better way to greet the day than reading God’s Word? This morning’s Scripture was Philippians 2. It is a reminder to get along with each other, to treat the affairs of others with as much care and respect as we would treat our own. I believe those admonishments would fall under the category of “love” and love covers a multitude of sins.
May God bless all of us, in our many different personalities, gifts, interests, quirkiness, and leanings, with love for Him, for each other, and for ourselves.
