An Ordinary Kind of Day

So far as I know, nothing special is going on today. The temperature is cold but we have escaped the dangerous weather that much of the nation is experiencing. If the Lord wills, I plan to exercise, get a hair trim, do some baking, clean the house a bit. Gratitude for my many blessings may spill over into a song or two. My children and grandchildren are near-by, safe and happy. My extended family are many and in far-away places and I have received no bad news of any calamities. A dear friend is in the hospital but, at least, I believe she is being taken care of and her problem diagnosed and remedied.

Along with the many ordinary days of my life, I have seen many that are not–ordinary, that is. In several decades (we won’t mention how many) of living, I’ve seen lots of extraordinary days. Some of these stand-out days are memorable in a good, exciting, joyful way; some I remember with a lot less enthusiasm, days that I could gladly have done without. I prefer to concentrate on those wonderful hours, the bright and shining moments and I like the days that just go along as usual, those comfortable days. Believe me, I am grateful for them.

Yesterday, I wrote about having eyes and not always using them. I hope today to actively look for the blessings, large and small that I may encounter. I don’t want to get so busy preparing for Thanksgiving that I miss the small miracles around me. I believe those amazing moments are hidden within the hours of every day, even an ordinary day like this one.
