I had forgotten the beauty of snow light. It doesn’t need a source of outside light, it brightens and covers and has a soft glow of its own. I wonder if it was a coincidence that my devotional reading this morning was Psalm 27? The Lord is my light and my salvation. His light covers sins and makes us beautiful in His sight.
This is the third day of March and we are getting more snow than we’ve had all season! We’ve had the cold, but only a half-inch of snow so far. Every day things look new and lovely. Rooftops are covered, my neighbor’s car wears a white coating, streets are unmarred by tracks.
Nemo went outside as he does every morning and came back in with snow clinging to his fur. He looked so funny–my first laugh of the morning. “What?” he seemed to ask. “It’s cold out there!”
And, it’s so quiet. Snow blankets the noises, muffles sound. It’s a softly shining world this morning.
Silence
by Blanche Day Manos
A soft and drowsy, downy day, the sky is furry, blurry gray;
No wind to blow the snow away
In patches.
The trees are draped with frozen lace, the meadow is an arctic place;
And house and barn, with wintry grace
Wear thatches.
