Every morn is a fresh beginning; every day is the world made new. You who are weary of sorrow and sinning, here is a wonderful hope for you, a hope for me and a hope for you. — Author Unknown
I’m not much for making New Year’s Resolutions. Once upon a time, it was fun to make them, but to me each day is an opportunity for new goals and it’s easier to keep them a day at a time instead of looking at a whole, long year.
However, I stopped by Levi, Oklahoma and asked Darcy and Flora and a few of their friends if they would like to share any New Year’s resolutions. Flora said she didn’t believe in them; she just tried to do her best each day. Darcy was off trying to find Trace Hughes and I couldn’t catch up with her.
The Misses Georgia and Carolina resolved to put away their little silver flask which contained tea enhancement.
Pat Harris promised to keep a better eye on Jasper and try to get him to stop roaming the woods quite so much; it made him the first suspect when anything sinister happened.
Grant was on his way out of his office door and when I asked him about New Year’s Resolutions, he muttered something about Darcy and popping the question.
Not getting a whole lot of response from the people of Levi, I traveled on to Ednalee and dropped in on Ned McNeil. She invited me into Uncle Javin’s spacious dining room, poured me a cup of coffee and said that her only resolution was to look into the history of the old house in which she lived. Particularly, she intended to solve the mystery of what happened to Constance Reilly, many years ago.
Anyhow, I like that poem, A New Beginning, so well, that here is the rest of it. I wish I knew who wrote it:
Yesterday is a part of forever,
Bound up in a sheaf, which God holds tight—
With glad days and sad days and bad days, which never
Shall visit us more with their bloom and their blight,
Their fullness of sunshine and sorrowful night
Ere morning and the dew?
Isn’t it queer how black a cloud can blow
Before the Sun breaks through?
Faith is remembering ere breaks the day,
Or ere the storm is done,
That out of somewhere speeding on their way,
Are the morning and the Sun!”
Good one! I gave up on resolutions a long time ago too.
I thought I lost my last 10,000 words for my new book this morning. I couldn’t locate them anywhere. I resigned myself to rewriting it all but when I was going to start, my mind was blank. I couldn’t even remember what I’d written! Because I have auto save on my computer, I never worried much about it. There was no way I could start over so I searched … and searched AND I found my ms hidden in my recycling bin (first time I missed it!). So, that has been the start to the new year for me.
I understand the feeling of panic, Sharon. I’m so glad you found it. I’m not sure why our computers do weird stuff sometimes but I’ve found things where I’d least expect them. Concentrate on the positive outcome! That was, undoubtedly, a sign that the rest of the year will have plenty of happy happenings.
